Around the city of Almora, there are many places that tourists can see along with prime attractions of Almora. Among those, the most prominent excursion of Almora is Kausani.
This place is also popular as small Switzerland of India. It is a small settlement located at the top of the hill. Phaulseema and Pharkanauli are situated at a distance of 4 km.
It makes for an excellent excursion from Almora as here you can see the rock painting, dated back to proto historic period.
This painting is formed from numerous red lines going in different directions create many dancing pictures. The Shiva temple also makes an excellent excursion of the city of Almora.

Doonagiri Temple
Doonagiri temple is dedicated to the goddess Durga and has been the place of religious importance. The temple presents a marvelous view of the valleys surrounding Almora.
Baijnath
It is a historically significant place. Located about 71 kms. from Almora, it has many 12th and 13th century temples which were built during the Katyur dynasty. These temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva, Parvati and Ganesha.
Simtola
Simtola is located just 3 kms. from Almora. It presents a beautiful, almost a postcard view, with miles of beautiful terrain
lined with pine and fur trees. On the opposite side of the ridge where Simtola is situated, is a pine covered picnic spot. Hiradungi, which was once a diamond mining centre, is also located close-by.
Kosi
Kosi is one of the prime spots located around Almora. It is one of the most famous excursions of Almora, which houses the Govind Vallabh Pant Environmental Research Institute. It is also popular as a picnic spot with arrangements for guest houses for overnight stay.
Binsar
Situated at an altitude of 2420 metres above sea level, Binsar is a beautiful, picturesque and one of the most scenic spots in the whole of Kumaon region. The entire region is now a wildlife sanctuary and is home to many rare species of animals, bird and wild flowers.
Gorkhakhal
Gorkhakhal is a small town situated near Almora which is famous for its temple. It is believed that praying here leads to the fulfillment of one's wishes.
Jageshwar
Located about 34 kms from Almora, Jageshwar is an attractive place nestled in an enchanting valley surrounded by coniferous forests and tall deodar trees. It presents a magnificent view of the Himalayan ranges. Located to the east of Almora, this place is a famous religious spot which houses numerous temples of Gods and Goddesses and is believed to be the seat of one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in the country. Jageshwar also hosts a number of fairs during Shivaratri, in the months of July-August.
