The climate of Himachal Pradesh does not have any symmetry regarding temperature. Some areas in the state are semi tropical while some are semi arctic.

This depends on the altitude of that place from the sea level. During summers, the upper regions of the state witness pleasant and comfortable temperature but the lower parts of hills are very hot and humid.

Winters starts in the month of October and stays till February. During this period, Himachal Pradesh experiences heavy snowfall in upper regions and mild snowfall in the lower regions. Monsoon period begins in the month of July and it continuous till September

Himachal Pradesh has a varied topography and its rugged terrain ranges from an altitude of 450 meters above sea level to an altitude of 6500 meters above sea level. Thus, climate in Himachal is also varied.

The diverse topography results in extremes of temperature, sometimes even in the diurnal range of temperature. However, its location near the mountainous ranges lends it a favorable weather and climate. The days are quite pleasant while the nights are usually chilly.

The best time to visit Himachal is during spring season that extends from mid-Feb to mid-April. At this time, the climate is pleasant, comfortable and mild. The lower regions in the southern Himachal that range between altitudes of 450 to 900 meters above sea level have sub-humid tropical climate.

The climate in Manali is very pleasant all through the year except during the winter when night temperatures may drop below zero degree Celsius. Springtime, beginning in March and lasting through April, brings to the valley blossoms, flowers and butterflies - offering a completely rejuvenating experience.

The summers beginning in the month of May, normally lasts through the month of June. It is a time when every body wishes to be in Manali. The maximum temperature during the summer barely touches 26 degrees centigrade towards the end of June. Manali is lush green and vibrant during the monsoons, beginning in July, and usually continues till the end of August. It is a time when the valley bustles with a variety of global tourists and trekkers.

Monsoons can be romantic with the mist flowing into your rooms. You can enjoy the gentle tapping of rain drops on the roof and get drenched in the rains. Another fine time to be in Manali is during September/October and November with autumn colors in the air. This is the time for the colorful Kullu Dusshera in which 365 gods and goddesses of the valley assemble at Dhalpur.

The regions that lie within 900 to 1800 meters above sea level have warm temperate climate while regions that lie between 1900 to 2400 meters above sea level have cool temperate climate. High mountain regions on the north and east of Himachal have an altitude of 2400 to 4800 meters above sea level and have cold alpine and glacial climate
