Himachal Pradesh » History
Historians and Archeologists have confirmed the existence of pre- historic civilizations in the state. It is perceived that inhabitants of the state were migrants and reached here from Central Asia and plains of India. The Rig Veda confirms the Aryans influence in the region. Aryans defeated the local tribesmen and made their permanent settlement over here. During this period, numerous Janpadhs were established in the region and these Janpadhs mentioned good relations with the Aryans to keep their freedom safe. After the fall of Aryans, the Gupta Dynasty took over the region and destroyed the Janpadhs system. In 1009 AD, a very famous Muslim ruler Mahmud of Ghazni annexed the region. He plundered and destroyed the settlements and later on Mughals established their control on the region.
