Jaisalmer Excursion | Tourist Attractions in Jaisalmer India
One of the most famous fair is of Baba Ramdevra Fair. Situated 12 Kms from Pokhran stands the village of Ramdevra. Ramdevra is known after the saint and Tanwar Rajput who took Samadhi (conscious exit from the mortal body) here in 1458. He was known to have miraculous powers and was venerated by both Hindus and Muslims alike.
The Desert Festival, held once a year in January-February is another exciting place to be. The very rich and colorful culture of Rajasthan welcomes you here. The snake charmers, puppeteers, acrobats and folk performers all charm you. The camel dance is a must see. Camel Acrobats, Camel Races, camel polo and tug of war entice even the lifeless here.
Jain temples, Jaisalmer Folklore Museum, Ram Kunda and Vyas chatri are some other excursions in Jaisalmer that cannot be left out.
Khuri Village & Sand Dunes
45 km to the south west of Jaisalmer lays the Khuri village. The mud and straw decorated houses in the village provide you a taste of the rural life of Rajasthan. Other attractions are a few sand dunes, approximately a km from the village. There a number of resorts in Khuri that provide came ride, music-dance and dinner package to the tourists.
Desert National Park
Jaisalmer Excursion Tour is incomplete without a visit to the Desert National Park. An excellent example of the ecosystem of the Thar Desert, the park has a rich wildlife. Blackbucks, Chinkara, Wolf, Indian fox, Desert fox, Desert cat, etc inhabit the park. The park also serves as a habitat to a wide variety of birds including Blue tailed and green bee-eaters, Drongos, Common quail, Bush quail, Indian rollers, Indian Bustard, etc. Numerous migratory birds also flock to the Desert National Park in winters.
Pokran is a fort town located on the junction of Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Bikaner road. Pokran is mainly famous as the site for nuclear detonation by India. The Fort is famous for a rich collection of weaponry, brocade clothes and various games of dice and dominoes. Other attractions of Pokran include exquisite furniture and interior crafts.
Barmer
Barmer, 153 km from Jaisalmer, is famous for fortresses, along with its intricate woodcarving, furniture and interiors, carpets, block printing and embroideries. Other attractions of Barmer include a group of five temples just 35 km from it, which are built in an architectural style known as Solanki.
Bada Bag
Bada Bag contains royal cenotaphs having carved images of past Maharawals & their families. It is located 6 km to the north of Jaisalmer.
Baisakhi
16 km from Jaisalmer is a pilgrimage for Hindus. Every year numerous devotees gather at this place on full Monday of Baisakh to take a holy dip. It also contains a Lord Shiva temple of early pratihar period, restored in 16th century.
Luderwa
Luderwa lies 16 km to the north west of Jaisalmer. It was the ancient capital of Jaisalmer. This deserted town is famous for the Jain temple, toran (ornate arch) & artificial divine tree (Kalptaroo).
Mool-Sagar
8 km from Jaisalmer is Mool Sagar. It is known for a lake, garden and summer palaces built by Maharawal Mool Raj in 18th century.
Kuldhara & Khabha Villages
Kuldhara & Khabha are two of the medieval deserted village of Paliwal Brahmins. They are located about 18-30 km to the south west of Jaisalmer. Their ruins still exhibit the architectural brilliance of the past times.
