Delhi Weather | Climate of New Delhi
Delhi’s climate is quite inimitable as city itself. On the onslaught of summer’s temperature of the city start moving upwards and till mid of May it reached to 46 degree centigrade.
It hovers in between 25 to 46 degree centigrade during summers. As a result, summers are very hot and humid. In contrast winters, are very cool due to immense flow of cold waves from north direction.
The mercury dips very sharply and temperature goes down to 2 degree centigrade. In the beginning of August, Monsoon generally reaches from South India to North India and Delhi witnesses the first showers of the season.
A part of lush green Aravalis in the plains of Northern India gave way to the capital of India - Delhi, several centuries ago. Like Agra, the city of Taj, it is also situated on the banks of river Yamuna. It has Himalayas to its north and is surrounded by land from all sides.
Position inland, far away from sea, it has extreme continental type of climate. The weather conditions of Delhi are quite varied with scorching summers and chilling dry winters.
In summers, the days are unbearably hot due to scorching heat of the sun. The day temperature can soar up to as high as 48 deg C. Tourists are advised to exercise extreme precaution during summers.
Weather in summer
Delhi is very hot in the summers. Summer season persists from April to August. The daytime temperature remains very high and usually touches around 45°C. Night are relatively cooler typical of extreme climate and the temperature comes down to as low as 28 °C because of the cool breeze.
Weather in winter
Winters in Delhi are a lot cooler with day temperature pleasant around 24°C. And nights are chilly with temperature getting as low as 2 to 4°C. The winter falls around Mid-November and continues till February end.
Weather in Monsoon
As Delhi is situated in North India the South West monsoons are very moderate and rains heavily in very short spells. Relative humidity is very high to the point where it becomes uncomfortable. The western disturbances too bring a fair amount of rainfall. Approximate annual rainfall is around 60-65 centimeters.
