Chail emanated out of a controversy. Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala, who is closer to our memories for the game, which we all hold dear to our Hearts, Cricket, built Chail, a smallish and sleepy village in Himachal Pradesh into a bustling Town.

Now, Chail could measure up to a much larger Shimla, the Summer Capital of the British Empire, and another Hill Station in India.

Chail Cuisine - Getting there: Chail is 350 km from Delhi, via Chandigarh and Kalka. The closest airport is at Chandigarh, 112 kms away .

The drive to Chail from Shimla is 43 km via Kufri and 61 km via Kandaghat. The toy train from Kalka to Kandaghat takes 5 hours and chugs through picturesque hills and tunnels.

There are buses and tourist taxis to Chail from Delhi, Chandigarh, Kalka, Shimla and Kandaghat.

Best time: Chail is beautiful in summer when the days are warm and the nights cool.

The best time to come here is from April to early July and again from September to November when the monsoons are done. The winters are cold and see snow.

Carry light woollens and cotton outfits for summer and heavy woollens and snow protection for winter.

History Of Chail Tours :
Chail was the summer capital of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala. In 1891, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala incurred the wrath of Lord Kitchener and was send in exile.

He was banned to enter into the summer capital of the British Raj, Shimla. Thus,to avenge the dishonour Maharaja Bhupinder Singh decided to build a better summer capital than Simla.

The little village of Chail was perfect. It lay surrounded by magnificent deodar forests, Shimla was in direct vision and most important, the hill of Chail at 2226 m was somewhat higher than British-controlled Shimla.

The architectually magnificient palace of Maharaja is now used as a tourist hotel.

Adventure

Adventure sports is a good option at Chail. Trekkers have the option of choosing between different trek routes - Kandaghat to Chail, Chail to Rajgarh and Chur-Chandni, and Chail to Shimla via Junga.

For those interested in fishing and angling, Gaura river is just perfect. Its waters is full of masheer. In winters skiing at Narkanda is an additional adventure option.
