Jalandhar Excursions | Jalandhar Sightseeing

Jalandhar is home to numerous places of religious interest, and many of them date back to several hundred years ago. Notable among them is the 800-year-old Imran Mausoleum sculptured to perfection and Jamma Masjid built some 400 years ago.

The St. Mary's Cathedral is another impressive structure. Temples in the city include Devi Talab Mandir which has a water tank built more than two centuries ago and Tulsi Mandir.

A trip to Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Museum is a must, where you can see the belongings and memorabilia of many freedom fighters.

For family entertainment visit the theme park Wonderland where you can enjoy rides and games.

Other Activities

Jalandhar is the place to shop for sports goods and sportswear. For general shopping you could check out Punjab's first mall, Manbro.

Lovers of spicy Punjabi cuisine can dine at Haveli, located on the Jalandhar-Phagwara Highway or Zaika Restaurant for typical Punjabi delicacies.

You can witness the important annual musical event known as the Harballabh Mela held every year in December for 3 days.

Baisakhi, the spring festival holds much importance all over Punjab and if you happen to be in Jalandhar during April, you can take part in the feisty celebrations.

Jalandhar is a large industrial city holding prime importance in the production of leather goods and sports equipment, besides being the world leader in the production of leather pouches.

It is perhaps one of the oldest cities of Punjab and owes its name to several legends in the past.

Folklore traces the name to a demon king, Jalandhar from the times of the Puranas and Mahabharata; while some credit it to the vernacular term 'Jalandhar' or area inside water, meaning the tract between two rivers flowing in the state of Punjab.

The capital of Punjab till 1953, Jalandhar was the home of several patriotic leaders of the Indian independence movement.

Today, the city has quickly adapted to the modern lifestyle and you can see multiplexes, major shopping outlets and entertainment complexes everywhere.
